The practical reason
Most consumer tax software is organized around income, deductions, credits, state returns, and e-file. Form 709 has a different job: it reports certain lifetime gifts and GST transfers, computes gift tax if any, and tracks use of gift and estate tax exclusion.
That difference matters for product design. A good Form 709 workflow has to ask about donees, gift dates, annual exclusion, present interest, GST, prior gift returns, spouse gift splitting, valuation records, signatures, and paper mailing proof.
What the May 2026 support review found
A May 13, 2026 review of TurboTax, TaxAct, and FreeTaxUSA support materials found that these mainstream consumer tax products did not present Form 709 as a general supported consumer preparation and filing workflow.
TaxAct and FreeTaxUSA state Form 709 non-support directly in their support content. TurboTax support and community materials state that TurboTax does not support Form 709, while TurboTax tax tips discuss gift-tax concepts. Vendor offerings can change, so verify current support in the vendor's own help center before relying on any 1040 software for gift-tax paperwork.
What Tax Paperwork does
Tax Paperwork public preview creates browser-local, watermarked draft packets for narrow supported facts. It does not submit to the IRS, store return data, decide whether a gift occurred, value property, or provide tax, legal, accounting, or valuation advice.
Stop before using a draft-preview workflow
Stop for professional review if the facts include GST, trusts, gift splitting, real estate, private company interests, prior Form 709 history, donor death, amended returns, nonresident donor facts, or current tax due.
